Use this guide to create a strong password and protect yourself in cyberspace!
Welcome to the digital age! We’re able to do more and more in cyberspace, and the Internet of Things is bringing connectivity to virtually (get it?) every aspect of our lives. All of this tech is making life easier, but it’s also making it riskier. As we put more of our information on the internet and in the cloud, a strong password becomes critical. Use these steps to make a stronger login.
- Make it unique. Have you ever needed to get into a friend or coworker’s computer? If so, which passwords did you try first? 12345, admin, password, and other common keywords might have helped you get into that computer, but it could also help a hacker get all of your personal information. Make sure you choose a password that’s uncommon. Also, choose unique passwords for each different login.
- Make it long. When it comes to passwords, size does matter. Every extra character you add to your password is an additional barrier between your information and a hacker. Experts recommend choosing passwords that are at least 12 characters long. It might sound excessive, but the longer your password the more distance you put between yourself and a breach.
- Make it special. That is, use special characters and other variety as much as possible. Capital letters, numbers, and punctuation take your password security to the next level. How is a hacker supposed to guess that you randomly capitalized that “F”? They won’t! Mix things up with special characters to keep your data as safe as possible.
