You probably know someone who springs out of bed, gets in a morning jog, cooks a full breakfast, and still has time to sit with a paper and coffee before heading out to work. That seems like a great way to start the day – until your alarm goes off when it’s still dark out. If you want to start waking up earlier, here are a few tips to make your morning easier.
- Reward yourself. Getting out of bed isn’t easy, but it doesn’t have to be painful, either. Give yourself something to look forward to by putting a cozy robe by your bed and getting a coffee pot with a timer. Knowing you can start your day in comfort will make it easier to get your head off the pillow.
- Track your progress. On your calendar, put an X in the corner of every day that you get out of bed at your goal time. Knowing you’ve got a string of x’s going will motivate you on days where you’re feeling sleepier than usual.
- Take small steps. If you’re currently getting up at 7:30 and you want to get up at 6:00, you set yourself up for failure if you switch your alarm a full hour and a half earlier! Instead, try getting up at 7:15 for a couple of weeks. Once that’s comfortable, move to 7:00 and so on. Giving yourself manageable goals will keep you on track!
